We started our visit at InvesTaiwan Service Center under the Ministry of Economic Affair of Taiwan, and learned about the supports and requirements to start business or work in Taiwan. There are two systems of job application to obtain work permit in Taiwan. The first one is by work experience and wages; detailed requirements include working experience for more than two years and the monthly salary is no less than NTD 47,971. Second is acquiring at least 70 points from eight categories of the Point System. The categories include (1) education background; (2) salary; (3) working experience; (4) qualified to serve in relevant capacity; (5) Chinese language ability; (6) multilingual ability; (7) personal overseas development; and (8) compliance with government policy. MiTAC has focused on the IoT (Internet of Things) system integration. During the annual activity of CTCI Foundation’s 2017 Enterprise Visit on August 23rd 2017, we had the opportunity to visit the MiTAC Information Technology Corp. in Taipei. Since its establishment in 1982, under the leadership of Chairman Matthew Miau and the Corporate Director Billy Ho, the company has risen to become the leader in ICT industry ever since. We were welcomed by the staff and led to a very modern audiovisual presentation room to watch presentation on introduction of company business. We were granted a rare opportunity to learn about the experiences of applying system integration services in many fields, including electronic surveillance, navigation, tax and fare collecting system, banking and health service. I was astonished at how many of the company’s applications I have already used or observed in my daily life in Taiwan—first and foremost the EasyCard, which my family and I find extremely convenient. Throughout the presentation, we were able to watch broadcast from the showroom on a big screen, from which we were shown the system usage focusing on smart library services, enabling users to borrow, return, or clean the dust from the book. Their Global Marketing Director, Mr. Rich Liao, told us in an eloquent way about the nature of the implemented technologies, emphasizing the transactional character of every system; the information is being sent to the processing center in a secure and distinct way (using the personal key), after which the information can be processed for the desired outcome to be displayed. We were also told about the future of the company’s investments in southwest Asia and India. The Q&A session touched on various topics, like the possible usage of AI, and security and counter-traffic system development in big cities. The last panel gave every participant the opportunity to voice their opinions and share observations, which enriched our knowledge and created a room for discussing the possibilities for expansion and development. Overall, I felt very inspired by the wide range of company’s activities, great perspectives for understanding many different fields and regions, as well as the way MiTAC company has been evolving throughout the years while maintaining its top position in the ever-changing digital society.

Once I received the Enterprise Visit admission confirmation, I was eager to meet other participants from different countries and cultures. Even though I had industrial working experience in India, I was not certain whether the working style and culture of Taiwanese companies. Excellent manufacturing is well-known to Taiwanese enterprises that make me want to learn from these leading companies. Our first visit was to InvesTaiwan Service Center where I learned how the Taiwan Government can help us with investment and job search. For investment, the government agency can help searching for potential business partners. As for job finding, foreign talents are evaluated based on the Point System with minimum requirement of 70 points. And the Contact Taiwan website can help matching potential recruiters between foreigners and corporates. Another important finding for me is that Taiwan is one of the best destinations for anyone to invest or work amongst the Asian countries in terms of lifestyle and growth. Being new here, this was a big finding for me. Therefore, I can start to prepare myself for working or investing in Taiwan as early as I can. The visiting companies included MiTAC, Advantech, Rhymebus, HIWIN and CTCI Corporation. I learned about how company like MiTAC is evolving as an IT company specializing in system integration. MiTAC is trying to solve traffic problem with smart card as the single card for all transactions. That is a really brilliant idea, because most countries have multiple cards for each and every type of transit. Advantech is number one company in industrial computer and has been trying to become expert in IOT and industry 4.0. Rhymebus manufactures inverter and focuses on green technology. HIWIN is a linear motion control company that has started building robots and many other products. CTCI Corp. has shown how foreign talents can work and enjoy life in Taiwan. After interacting with company staffs and students from different countries, I felt more confident about my future once I started working for betterment of the society. I realized that Taiwan corporate culture matches global standard, and all the companies take care of their employees by providing working motivation and freedom. CTCI Foundation takes good care of 31 international students from different countries and with distinct cultures and religions as participants never felt uncomfortable during the trip. What I learn from the trip is that, despite of the differences among us, all of us aim to make this world more sustainable and better for all human kind. CTCI’s annual funding of total 60 international students for the Enterprise Visit is a significant and unique way to do CSR by uniting the world and bridging the communication gap. Thanks to CTCI Foundation for the effort.

I find Taiwan to be a great place to explore new things. There always exits opportunities and challenges for international students to develop new skills. And the CTCI Enterprise Visit is one of the best opportunities I have ever experienced. InvesTaiwan gave extraordinary useful information about entrepreneurship and exciting possibilities available in Taiwan. MiTAC gave an outstanding introduction and showed me the successful developments of smart cards in Metro stations and E-gate immigration systems. At CTCI Corporation, thanks to Mr. Louis Chen, I learned useful information about the power stations, working culture, and related opportunities for young minds. At Advantech, thanks to Mr. Vincent Chang, the Director of Industrial IoT group. We explored the real time working environment through control room, and learned about how IoT could actualize human dreams in the near future. The integration of hardware and software can give solutions to make the world so powerful. Rhymebus showcased their successful control of power saving circuit designs; it was wonderful to generate electricity power by doing exercise. Mr. Sam Chang and Mr. Lanson Lin also explained the job opportunities for the young minds. HIWIN showed students their existing modern technologies in the nearest future, the single axes and multi axes robots and their amazing applications in transportation and medical applications. It was interesting to see how companies run business, how they formulate problems and integrate successful products for improving the human society and lifestyle. Smart Libraries in the companies are one of the best resources I found. Aside from learning career opportunities, the visit allowed me to understand important things such as the basics of entrepreneurship, how academic research could be implemented in the industries, the working culture in the industries, what possible improvements could still be made, and how to utilize resources efficiently. I would like to give sincere thanks to CTCI Foundation for having selected me for the Enterprise Visit and the staffs for timely support. This was a wonderful opportunity and experience!

After my study, I will send my CV to these companies. Thanks to CTCI Foundation for organizing this event. It is a valuable and unforgettable experience in my life.

Fikri Rahmat Fasya ( 勤益科大NCUT 印尼Indonesia )

It was a big honor for me to join the Enterprise Visit and learn about the working environment and working opportunities in Taiwan. At the InvesTaiwan, we learned about the steps for working or starting investment in Taiwan, that were useful information for those of us that have interest to work in Taiwan. MiTAC Corporation is one of the most prestigious companies in Taiwan. Their products are very close to our daily life, such as developments of the Easy Card, e-Gate in Taoyuan International Airport, ATC (Automatic Toll Collection), auto gate in MRT station. Their current MRT project carries out in other countries include India, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Their future plans like Tokyo Olympics 2020 have opened my mind to a very advanced world. If I could work in Taiwanese companies, I would choose to go back to my country so as to promoting development. We also visited CTCI Corp. which was also the holder of this event. I think there are big opportunities for international students like us to work in CTCI Corp., as it has so many branches around the world to support this. On the second day, we visit Advantech, Rhymebus and HIWIN, that all are leading pioneers in their fields. Advantech is a leading Taiwanese company in developing new chips, CPU, processor and computer parts. Rhymebus is very good at developing inverters, especially AC inverter. Developing a power generator bike is very helpful for the world. HIWIN is very advanced in robotics making. I think it is the best robotics company in Taiwan with their good management system and work environment. If I have a chance, I really want to work for CTCI, MiTAC, or Rhymebus. The third day to Sun Moon Lake was also a really nice choice. Although I had already been there before, the place is always memorable. Another precious thing that I got from the trip is friendship. I love to meet new friends from different countries. Thank you for the consideration and everything!

Nguyen Tan Trac (中央大學NCU 越南Vietnam )

The visit to the InvesTaiwan Service Center (ITSC) was a surprise for me as I learned that opportunities to work at Taiwan are very open and easy to foreigners. This is certainly not a difficult issue to international graduate students since all we have to do is achieving certain points in order to meet governmental standards. Among the visited companies, MiTAC Information Technology Corp. gave us detailed information on traffic conditions in many countries. The traffic condition in my country, Vietnam, faces a huge problem because of an increasing population. One of the most efficient ways to solve this problem is through the metro system which is still under constructions. MiTAC has showed us that it provides an advanced solution for the operation and maintenance of the metro system. As a civil engineer, my interest is in works on structure and construction. Therefore, I was very eager to visit CTCI Corporation since I had known about this company a long time ago. I also had a chance to work in a CTCI project of testing NMB Splice Sleeve in 2017 with Professor Hsu Hsieh-Lung’s lab at the National Central University. These were the reasons why I had applied for the activity of 2017 Enterprise Visit. The trip gave me not only the opportunity to visit CTCI Corporation in person, but also allowed me to learn how a real business operates. I hope that I could become a member of CTCI Corporation in the future. Companies of Advantech, Rhymebusn, and HIWIN are in other fields which differ from my specialty of civil engineering. Nonetheless, these companies are extremely useful for my friends and other participants. They provide insight into Taiwan’s business operation. On the other hand, the trip was a good chance for me to make new friends from many other counties. They have great desire to work at Taiwanese companies as I do. Finally, I would like to extend a special thanks to the CTCI Foundation for holding this great trip.
