I am currently a graduate student in National Cheng Kung University, and hopefully the next semester will be my last. Looking back at the past two years, I can say with confidence that my experiences in NCKU and Taiwan have been generally positive. Life in Taiwan is good and filled with promises for international students like me. Meanwhile research and technology are highly valued by the government and industries here. It was not hard for me to decide that I want to start my engineering career in Taiwan. However, I must admit that finding information on career opportunities is difficult for someone with low Chinese proficiency. There is also a fear that no company would hire a foreigner who cannot speak Chinese fluently. These reasons thus motivated me to join the 2017 Enterprise Visit for International Graduate Students. This visit gave me a rare glimpse of Taiwanese companies such as MiTAC, Advantech, HIWIN, Rhymebus and CTCI Corp.. The event provided opportunities to learn more about these companies through talks with their esteemed employees and plant tour guides. Even though some of these companies are looking for people from other engineering fields, this event still reassures me that companies here are willing to hire foreign talents. In the months to come, I will be aggressively seeking employment and with any luck I will be able to get a job in Taiwan.
