學員心得

安德魯/Andrew E. Mendy ((中正大學機械工程學系碩一) 甘比亞)

A graduate student has only one thing in mind to find a job immediately after graduation. Getting an invitation to this visit is a life changer and I will take advantage of it. I realize there are a lot of chances for me to find a good job and develop myself and get some experience, learn new skills in Taiwan and one day make my dreams come true. I learn: (1) Research is the key to any one or country’s development strategy. After seeing the research capabilities of all the companies, I change my perception towards research and I will work hard to be a great researcher. I have been inspired by the verse research done by all these companies and getting a job there will be a big thing for my country. (2) Challenges are the first thing that everyone faces in life. The companies are working hard to keep to the growing industries and technological developments. I have always put myself under pressure and so many challenges and after seeing all these companies I see that all these things are just a part of life. CTCI Foundation inviting us to this visit this visit is also part of a challenge that we must learn and change our perception of what is outside the classroom. (3) Been Innovative I have always ask myself what would I do after graduation, what job can I do with my mechanical engineering certificate. When I sit and look at my country we just have small factories and no industries and this is outing my country backward. After this tour, I realize how innovative these companies and if I work with them it will widen my abilities. Taiwan is growing every day and night just because of how innovative the people are. During the tour of all the companies, I observe and analyses the opportunities available for me as a mechanical engineer. Based on only the companies we visit there are not too many opportunities and there are still some. Basically, this visit is just to show us that there are many opportunities for us to learn and work in Taiwan. During and after the tour I take my time to research more about companies in Taiwan and I realize that I have a lot of opportunities to have a good job and a good salary in Taiwan. All the friend I make during the tour were as worried as I was but I know now they have a clear perspective of what to look for out there and I wish they can be given the opportunities to show their talents and help develop Taiwan industries. After Phison reading the profile of Phison founder I realize that I also have the chance to grow big in Taiwan. The expansion of Phison shows that Taiwan is a friendly environment for foreigners and being part of that and learn a lot in Taiwan I think I can make a different and it can also make a difference in my life. I have seen a good number foreign students working in Taiwan and they are doing very good for their companies and themselves and if they can I can. Since I finish my undergraduate degree last year I said to myself that I will look for a job in Taiwan so that I can develop myself. I gain more strength and power in that decision because now I have been given in insight view of what is available. With my own effort and the help of CTCI Foundation I know I am making the best decision.

I came to Taiwan pursuing my Master Degree in Computer Science and Information Engineering. At first, the only thing in my mind is to finish my study and go back to my country as soon as possible. As time goes by, I saw that there is so much potential in Taiwan’s ICT industry, so working in Taiwan has become my goal once I get my master degree. I have been finding out some information since a few months ago, but I cannot find valuable information. Fortunately, CTCI Foundation seems like knowing what I would be looking for. I feel so lucky that I’m able to join such kind of this event. I am increasingly convinced that I wanted to work here since we visit Phison Electronics Corporation and Hiwin Technologies Corporation. I feel so happy to know that my field is the first priority in the top ten areas. Among all top ten areas, I think it is very suitable for international students who study CSIE and EE field to gain more experience here. However, communication or language barrier seems like a big deal because most jobs are required Chinese ability. In my opinion, the Taiwan Government must keep holding this activity in the near future. It is helpful to those students who want to pursue their career in Taiwan. We are able to get to know more details about Taiwan Company. Not only that, if we see further, it is also taking an important role to globalize Taiwan’s company as nowadays a demand in the globalization era. In overall, I think this activity is well-organized. I thank all accompanied staff who gave us the opportunity to take part in this precious activity.

Being able to take part of the CTCI Foundation’s activity made me feel so fortunate, to be chosen among other international graduate students. Before, I didn’t know that those companies existed. From these short visits of each company, I learned something new. Talking about the technology being used for designing, which in my field in engineering is a very useful tool in project implementation. I may don’t have an idea which software they used, but it is such an interesting one, having to make a 3D model for an as-built infrastructure by means of images. It made me think to try it in the future if any such situation arises. On the other company visit, because I’m not really into computer programming, it seems to me that this world is so lucky to have people who were able to invent this fascinating technology that we consumers won’t have any trouble taking pace on every new technology comes out. It is just so wonderful that they made our life easier. It is such a privilege to visit a “traditional” company that existed for almost 50 years, having able to see the production process. How they illustrated their company’s vision, I can tell that they are aiming to soar high. Just like an eagle, a kind of breed which is a silent-type and yet observing what is happening in its surroundings, and when a problem occurs, it knows how to handle the situation. The last company visited offers a very high technology system on their products. A world class product I must say. Also, it seems to me that the way the employees perform, it is proportional to what their products are all about, with precision. To work in a company that caters not only locals but especially international consumers is a very challenging task.

The first stop of this trip is Invest Taiwan Service Center (ITSC). When I arrived in ITSC, I met so many people and they’re all friendly. Sharron, staff of ITSC, gives us so many useful information, like how to be an expatriate in Taiwan, what is the qualification to be a foreign employee, how is the demand of overseas talents, and they even give us information how to see the job openings in Taiwan. The interesting part is how to apply for entrepreneur visa, before this trip I don’t even know we can open our business in Taiwan and now I can see how it’s worked. After that, we’re going to eat at the riverside restaurant which has beautiful scenery. Also, we cruising on the river which is very exciting because before I just experienced cruising on the sea but not on the river so is a new and pleasant activity. That day too we’re going to CTCI Corporation. Actually even before I joined this event, CTCI is one of my dream companies that I wanted to join. So after going to CTCI and listened to the presentation about the working environment, research, and development, etc. I even want more to join CTCI. At night we were had dinner at Japanese Restaurant and I personally think that the food was really great, we ate a lot of seafood and the fish was very fresh. The second day we were started our day went to Phison. This company is so cool because it was established by a Malaysian and I think they can grow even bigger. They also gave us transformer USB which is very cool. After that, we were going to Taiwan Hon Chuan Group to see how’s the factory worked and also we were going to Hiwin Technologies Corporation to see so many bearing and robots. I personally think that I had beautiful memories with CTCI. It was a good opportunity to know more about being an expatriate in Taiwan, the work environment in companies in Taiwan, meet so many people from many countries and also know the tourism in Taiwan even more. I would gladly promote this event to my international friends so they can experience what I’ve experienced.

First of all, I still would like to say “thank you” to CTCI foundation to give me such a great opportunity to visit top corporations in Taiwan and treat us very well, good accommodation and amazing Taiwan traditional food. In this trip, I have met a lot of incredible international students. They are smart and friendly. Even though the trip is only three days and we are all come from different background, we can get along very fast. We talk, we laugh and share and in the last day before separate, I feel I miss them already. Besides that, I want to say thank you to unforgettable helpful staff, thank you all of you to organize this trip smoothly. We cannot have this awesome memory without you. Our first visit company “CTCI Corporation”, the biggest construction company in Taiwan. I was so surprised that CTCI has a branch in Thailand too. I feel interested in this company because the construction industry is an essential industry. Even though the economic is up and down, the city still needs the transportation and energy to moving on. The next visit company is “Phison”. I am so impressed by the innovation of Phison. Phison has a high-quality product and good company vision. I really believe that the company must grow numerously. Here is one more thing I would like to add about Phison working environment, we have should visit the production line, the office zone rather than just sitting and watch the presentation. Another company that really amazed me is “Hon Chuan Group”. I am so impressed that when we first arrive in Hon Chuan, they already prepare the drink, gifts to us. They very smart that give us the form for evaluation and collect our basic information for recruitment. These are small things have shown their professional. Moreover, they were very generous to let us visit the production line. I was so surprised that the line requires only a few people to operate, it is so efficiency. Finally, I would like to give some personal small recommendations that I think it would be a benefit to next trip. First, I think the food has been ordered over consume, it’s better to order some main dish first, if it is not enough then we can order more. Second, on the last day of the trip, I think the cycling program should be put in the evening instead of the morning due to after cycling every gets tired and sour and our body is very smelly. If these two things could be avoided in the trip, I think the trip will be perfect.

First of all, I would like to offer my sincere gratitude to CTCI foundation for allowing me to participate in this program. The overall experience was fun, delicious, interesting, and amazing. I didn’t expect we could experience so many things in such a short time. The serious business meetings, short but fun leisure time and delicious fancy meal, everything was in accordance with the schedule. As a girl from agriculture domain country, the experience in industrial and technological development in this country has always been mesmerizing and worthy of studying. I have to highlight the CTCI Corporation first since it has become my dream company. Not only they are the largest engineering, procurement, and construction firm but also their technological development and IT use has been advanced to be a leader of global standard. I used to work in Supplier Company that sells construction materials to construction companies. So I thought I’m familiar with the recent technologies but realized that the technologies have been advanced far more. And made me encouraged to study more about this industry and wish to experience working in this company. And about Taiwan Hon Chuan Group, I also really interested in this group because of their managerial implication, smooth development and increased revenue throughout their history even during recession time. Even though it’s a traditional business but the skill to manage the company to become this big is a very admirable and I want to more about them. About these two companies, I really wanted to see them establish their branches in our country and I want them to help in that project. About the other two companies, Phison Electronics and Hiwin Technologies corporations, they were really interesting but far more advanced to establish in my country in recent years. My original goal for this trip is to study the companies that have a potential to establish their business in my country. Mongolia is an importing country, not a good export country and I want to change that. And it has been a good experience to study many diverse companies during this trip.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you CTCI Foundation for sponsoring my trip. It was a wonderful trip and help me to learn a lot out of school. For a three-day trip, it was a pleasure time for me not only to know about famous companies in Taiwan but also help me to make friends from different countries in the world. Finding a good job is a challenge to everyone after graduation, especially for foreigners who really want to work in a foreign country like Taiwan. This trip is very helpful for those who want to explore companies to find a job. I had a chance to visit some companies such as CTCI Group, Phison Electronics Corp., Taiwan Hon Chuan, and Hiwin Technologies Corp. One of my attractive companies is Phison Electronics Corp. since it closely relates to my research topic. This company is one of the famous companies in Taiwan, which designs the flash memory, controller chip for USB flash drive. However, almost none will know this well-known company since the name of the final products which are manufactured by another company like Transcend, Kingston, etc. Besides that, I love the environment working here since it is professional through the way I communicate with them. Last but not least, everyone got a gift, USB flash drive with transformer shape, which is designed by Phison Corp. It is so cute. Briefly, it is my pleasure to visit those companies to help me widen my knowledge. It is a good chance for me to familiar with real-time operating of a company. I wish I could get a job in Phison Corp. in the future.

Thanks to the CTCI Foundation which has organized this event. So a lot of benefits and knowledge gained, in particular about how and what should be prepared to find a job in Taiwan. Right now I'm studying at the National Chin-Yi University of Technology, of course, I also thought about what I would do after graduating from here. At first, I just thought after I finished school, I would go home and find a job there. But after attending this event, my mind seemed to open that we can work in Taiwan are certainly (in my opinion) in terms of salaries and better facilities than in Indonesia. Honestly, I'm very interested and make this as my motivation. But there is a requirement that I think is quite important and quite difficult, that we should be able to speak Chinese in terms of writing, speaking, and listening. During my one year here, so I studied the Chinese language for more than 6 months, and my ability is still lacking. So I have to study harder. At the time of the event, we were all visiting five companies. And the company is sufficiently related to my major now, but Phison Electronics Corporation caught my attention, because the thesis I was doing it was associated with a wide variety of electronic components. But I really like the design, I like to draw and design a building, refrigeration systems, air-conditioning systems, or other tools. After I read the company profile and visit directly CTCI Corporation I am very interested and feel like someday to join and work there. Besides open my mind about the job, after attending this event I can get a lot of new friends from different countries. I am very glad to get acquainted with them all. And also to the committee which has been very well organized this activity, thank you so much. Lastly, I hope CTCI Foundation can continue to organize events like this and hopefully one day I can join and work in Taiwan. Thank you CTCI Foundation.

I think that CTCI Foundation arranged “Invest Taiwan Service Center (ITSC)” as the first stop is a very brilliant idea. ITSC offers international “one-stop” recruitment service and interactive job-matchmaking platform. We got such opportunity as a global talent to know the relative issues about residence and work in Taiwan. Make us know that Taiwan has such many of global company, even though Taiwan is very small compared with my country, Indonesia. Visiting CTCI, Phison, Taiwan Hon Cuan, and Hiwin give me so much knowledge, even though I only can understand CTCI Corp. (because I study in the same field, civil engineering), but I can learn how the real business operates with their focus area technology, and have face to face discussion with these company is very good experience for us. And it’s surprising that we got many souvenirs from the company. Combining a tour to a very high-quality company with the funny enjoyable cultural trip and attraction, I personally very love this experience. Moreover, many international students have inspired me to look a different way than before. The most important thing is all of the cost are cover by the CTCI Foundation, that really help us to have more understanding about Taiwan’s business and working environments, many thanks and hope it will hold more years forward to other new coming student, and CTCI foundation can develop and give more and more for its surrounding.

柯敬/Mara St. Clair ((台灣科技大學營建工程系碩一) 聖露西亞)

The CTCI Foundation 2016 Enterprise Visit was an extremely well-executed trip for graduate students. The most influential part was the introduction to the Invest Taiwan Service Center on the first day. I appreciated the clarification of the points system now included in the process for obtaining a work permit and that for entrepreneur visas for those of us with interest in running a business in Taiwan. All the information provided was pertinent that I shared it with my friends and foreign colleagues here. Although the staff of ITSC prepared to meet with us, there were a few questions that may not have been satisfactorily answered due to miscommunication or just plainly lost in translation. But this is often unavoidable when translating two challenging languages. All in all, the assistance is given to us by ITSC is immeasurable. The various enterprises warmly welcomed the graduate students and displayed impressive introductions to their companies and the work they currently produce. Opening the floor to students for questions was a wonderful opportunity to better understand the work environments at each enterprise even though the students, including myself, were too shy to confer. I would like to suggest possibly broadening the company categories as this enterprise visit mainly pertained to persons within the electrical or mechanical engineering or marketing fields. Although these may be the most common fields that foreigners in Taiwan are affiliated with or accepted into, a couple of the more uncommon areas where Taiwan may need to expand could also be considered, such as, environmental engineering, medicine, textiles, food science/industry (though this was somewhat covered by the Taiwan Hon Chuan Group). I also thoroughly enjoyed the visits to some of the touristic sites in Taizhong and Miaoli. These stops provided a great refresher in between enterprise visits and gave the students time to interact with each other and form a network across the various universities we attend. With new friends, we may build bridges for future co-operations. I hope that the CTCI Foundation Enterprise Visit will be an annual venture for years to come so that more graduate students will be encouraged to remain in Taiwan and positively contribute to its development and society.

This activity is really beneficial for a foreign student that studied in Taiwan because we can know more about job opportunities in Taiwan. At the first day, Invest Taiwan Service Center gave us explanations about how they can help foreign students to search job in Taiwan and apply for the vacant jobs. There also information about some criteria we should prepare to get a work permit. Each criterion has the score that can be accumulated to be the final score, to get a work permit; we have to at least have 70 scores. One of the important criteria is can speak Mandarin fluently. This is really important because to have the job in Taiwan, we have been charged to communicate well with another native employee. We also gain more knowledge about some industry including CTCI Corporation, Phison Electronics Corporation, Taiwan Hon Chuan Group, and Hiwin Technologies Corporation. First, when I visited CTCI Corporation, this company is a professional who provides expert advice in a particular domain or area of expertise. We learned more about work integration to solve the contractor problems. We also learned about 3d scanner and its benefit. Phison Electronics Corporation also provides the new technology that supports our life every day like NAND Flash controllers and applications including USB, SD, eMMC, PATA and SATA. Then we visited the most well-known integrated beverage-packaging manufacturer in Taiwan, Taiwan Hon Chuan Group produces cap, PET bottle and preform, label, and beverage OEM service, here we can know how they produce their products and how they also keep the environment safe. Last company we had visited is Hiwin Technologies Corporation. This company is my favorite, because it is related with my major. Hiwin is the 2nd largest linear motion control and system technology manufacturer in the world, so they focus their work in research and development, because to make a new technology, we must have the new idea to make the product better. Product lines of Hiwin Technologies Corp. include precision ball screws, linear guideways, and industrial robot, with the features of high speed, high precision, multifunction, and environment protection, which can be applied in biochemistry & medical equipment, Semi-conductor, intelligent automation, energy saving, precision machinery, and transportation industries. Overall this activity really opens my mind about my future if I would work in Taiwan Company, besides that I met new friends from another country. There was a valuable moment in my life. Thank you so much for letting me join at this activity, I really appreciate the time you spent with all of us and enjoyed the activities.

First of all, I would like to thank all of the coordinators of CTCI foundation for your kind reception and well-arranged programs. The trip completely changed my views and ideas I have before for Taiwan. Initially, I am thinking to finish and go back to my home country and I have not this much interest to work in Taiwan. But thanks to CTCI foundation, after the trip my view and idea were completely changed. As you know, we have visited at least four companies and I observed that Taiwan has many giant companies which need more human powers. I was observed that there are so many companies work relating to my education background just like beverage companies (Taiwan Hon Chuan groups) we were observed. So, if I get the chance of work within this companies, I am very glad to stay in Taiwan to serve the company with full of energy and great motivation. I observed that all companies are very special, has attractive work of environments and above all the companies have cared for their workers. In general, if I get the chance to work here, I am very happy to join R&D center of Taiwan Hon Chuan groups, because they have many jobs related to my education background. Furthermore, from “2016 Enterprise visit for international graduate students” I grasped so many information concerning beautiful country “Taiwan”. Finally, I hope at the end of my graduation I will send my full CV to the Invest Taiwan service center to become international workers in Taiwan. I believe in your service and hope we will meet each other after the end of my studies.
